Legacy Soccer and Coerver Coaching are proud to enter into a dynamic partnership together.

The Legacy Center and Coever Michigan are proud to announce an exclusive partnership to the benefit of ambitious soccer players. The Legacy Center and Coerver are excited to break ground on a holistic soccer suite that will continue for years to come. This unique program will kick off this winter with The Center of Excellence (COE) that will be hosted at the Legacy Center, offering a great training environment for male and female players.

Coerver Coaching History

In the late 1970s, Dutch European Championship winning coach Wiel Coerver led a revolution in soccer coaching. He was dissatisfied with the lack of individual skills and emphasis on defensive play in the professional game; an emphasis that many thought, was stifling the more exciting, attacking style of play necessary to score goals and attract fans.

Up to that point, little attention had been given to individual skill development, because no one knew quite how to teach these skills. It was also, then, widely assumed that the great players of the game were innately gifted far beyond the capabilities of the average player.

Coerver’s early focus was on teaching ball mastery and 1 v 1 skills by encouraging players to emulate the “moves” of soccer’s all-time greats, such as Sir Stanley Matthews, Cryuff, Beckenbauer and Pele.

In 1984, inspired by Wiel Coerver’s Philosophy, Alfred Galustian and Charlie Cooke founded what is now known around the world as Coerver® Coaching.

Coerver® Coaching is

A soccer skills teaching method suited for all ages but especially for players aged 5-16 years old of all abilities and their parents, coaches and teachers

A Method that focuses on Individual skills development and small group play

The ultimate goal of the Coerver® Coaching Method is to:

  • Develop skilled, confident and creative players
  • Make the game fun to practice and play
  • Teach good sportsmanship and respect for all
  • Value winning but not more than character and performance
  • Provide a safe & educational experience that meets best practice criteria

Starting this winter, Legacy will host the first male & female centric Center of Excellence (COE) curriculum for athletes 7 to 13. High level female former Division 1 players and successful coaches will lead the female program with an already established male coaching staff in place for the male platform. Along with aggressive skill development and technique training, the coaches will educate players to focus on the mental side of the game. The COE’s programs are an exceptional opportunity for your child to gain skill, confidence and mental strength in the sport of soccer.
